Privacy Policy

We believe in complete transparency about how your data is collected, used, and protected.

Overview

Welcome to Clarify ("we," "our," or "us"), a food label scanning app developed by Oxbit. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our Android application.

By using Clarify, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

Our commitment: We collect only what is necessary to provide you with personalized food analysis. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Data We Collect

We collect information in the following categories:

Account Information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture via Google Sign-In. We do not receive your Google password.

Health & Dietary Preferences

Goals you select (weight loss, clean eating, allergy management, diet), your chosen diet type, and allergen sensitivities. This data is stored in Firebase Firestore and is essential for personalizing your food analysis.

Scan Data & Images

Photos you capture of food product labels (up to 4 per scan) are processed via OCR and sent to Google Gemini API for analysis. Scan results — including product name, health score, ingredients analysis, and allergen flags — are stored in Firestore linked to your account.

Usage Data

Number of scans performed, scan timestamps, ad views (for earning extra scans), and subscription status (free or premium). We also collect app interaction data via Firebase Analytics to improve app performance.

Device & Technical Data

Device type, OS version, app version, crash logs, and performance metrics collected through Firebase Crashlytics and Google AdMob.

Data we do NOT collect:

Precise GPS location
Contacts or call logs
Microphone audio
Other app data
Biometric data

We do not use your food scan data or health preferences for advertising targeting.

Third-Party Services

Clarify integrates the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policy:

Google Sign-In

Used for authentication. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Firebase (Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics)

Used for data storage, analytics, and crash reporting. Governed by Firebase's Privacy Policy.

Google Gemini API

Used to analyze food label text and generate personalized insights. Label text and your dietary profile are sent to Gemini for processing. Governed by Google AI Terms.

Google AdMob

Used to show ads to free-tier users and reward ads for bonus scans. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Users can opt out of personalized ads in their device settings.

Google Play Billing

Used to process the Unlimited Scans subscription ($5/month). Payment data is handled entirely by Google; we do not store card or payment details.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Firebase Firestore, hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL).

Access to your data is restricted to your authenticated account. We implement Firebase Security Rules to ensure no other user can access your scan history or preferences.

Scanned images are processed in memory for OCR and are not permanently stored on our servers. The extracted text and analysis results are what get saved to Firestore.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

Account data — until deletion
Scan history — until deletion
Preferences — until deletion
Analytics — 14 months (Google)
Crash logs — 90 days

When you delete your account from the Settings screen, all your personal data, preferences, and scan history are permanently deleted from Firestore within 30 days.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access & Export

You can view all your scan history directly within the app. For a full data export, contact us at the email below.

Edit Preferences

You can update your dietary goals, diet type, and allergens at any time from the Settings screen.

Delete Individual Scans

You can delete any scan from your scan history directly within the app.

Delete Account

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account. This action is irreversible.

Opt Out of Personalized Ads

Go to your Android device Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

Children's Privacy

Clarify is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via the email associated with your account.

The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when the latest revision was made. Continued use of Clarify after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
